Because the School of Music believes
that music is a performance art, each
student is expected to perform at least
once per academic year in either a
studio or general recital, or master
class program. Each student must
perform in recital class at least once a
year as part of the requirement for
passing for the semester.
Students majoring in music in all degree
programs except the BM, will
present a 30-minute recital on the
approved applied instrument during the
senior year. Students may petition
to perform a one-hour recital. The
student may also give a recital during
the junior year, but is not required of
the degree programs. BM students perform
a required 30 minute junior recital and a
60 minutes senior recital. |

A student must submit an application for
junior/senior recital to the Dean for the School
of Music by the end of the semester preceding
the desired recital semester. Approval of
recital application, upon its review by the
Dean, in consultation with the chair of the
department and applied instructor, will be
communicated to the recitalist, applied
instructor, and the accompanist coordinator when
applicable.
The student may obtain a RECITAL APPLICATION
FORM from the departmental office or the
administrative suite in the School of Music that
will give complete instructions for preparation
for the program. Once the recital has been
approved the student must obtain a formatted
disc from the Director of Music Events so that
the information is uniform and ready to be
printed by the Administrative offices.
Due to a very busy school calendar, a student
presenting a thirty-minute recital is encouraged
to do a recital in conjunction with another
student also presenting a thirty-minute recital.
Guidance in choosing a recital "partner" will be
given by the student's applied instructor and
the Office of the appropriate Music Coordinator. |
