Practice Guidelines/Requirements for Applied
Study
Each student is expected to
practice a minimum of five hours
each week for each hour of credit in
applied music. The student who
wishes to excel as a performer will need
to spend a considerable amount of time
in individual practice.

Music Minors
Elective students enrolled
in applied/class instruction
Music Ensembles
Students practicing in any studio assume
responsibility for its remaining in good
condition.
Unless an accompanist is required, only
one person is allowed in the studio at a
time.
Doors must be kept closed at all times
during practice.
Pianos or piano benches are not to be
moved from one studio to another.
Specialized equipment (percussion
instruments) must remain in the assigned
rooms.
In order to protect the pianos and other
instruments of the School of Music , no food
or drink is permitted in the studios,
classrooms or practice rooms!
Practice rooms left unattended for ten
minutes become open for other music students
on a first-come first-serve basis.
Practice in faculty studios must be
arranged with individual faculty members.
Monitors do not have access to faculty
studios.
Rooms 207, 216, 219, and 221 are reserved for
keyboard majors. Access to these rooms
may be obtained by checking out a key from
the Instrumental Department Secretary from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ,
Monday through Friday or by asking the
monitor for admission after hours.
