Practice Guidelines/Requirements for Applied Study
Each student is expected to practice a minimum of five hours each week for each hour of credit in applied music.  The student who wishes to excel as a performer will need to spend a considerable amount of time in individual practice.

PRACTICE STUDIO GUIDELINES

  • Priority for use of practice studios:
    1. Music Majors
    2. Music Minors
    3. Elective students enrolled in applied/class instruction
    4. Music Ensembles
  • Students practicing in any studio assume responsibility for its remaining in good condition.

  • Unless an accompanist is required, only one person is allowed in the studio at a time.

  • Doors must be kept closed at all times during practice.

  • Pianos or piano benches are not to be moved from one studio to another.  Specialized equipment (percussion instruments) must remain in the assigned rooms.

  • In order to protect the pianos and other instruments of the School of Music , no food or drink is permitted in the studios, classrooms or practice rooms!

  • Practice rooms left unattended for ten minutes become open for other music students on a first-come first-serve basis.

  • Practice in faculty studios must be arranged with individual faculty members.  Monitors do not have access to faculty studios.

  • Rooms 207, 216, 219, and 221 are reserved for keyboard majors.  Access to these rooms may be obtained by checking out a key from the Instrumental Department Secretary from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM , Monday through Friday or by asking the monitor for admission after hours.
