Mrs. Yu was born into a family of medicine.
A prominent neural surgeon Father a successful
radiologist Mother did not convince Mrs. Yu to
become a medical doctor. She started violin
training in her early age in Guang Zhou
Conservatory of Music, the 3rd
largest conservatory in China, accepted Mrs.
Yu. While in the conservatory, Mrs. Yu’s
successful performances and great talents have
won her popularity among her peers. The high
point of her conservatory period was winning the
1st prize of Guang Zhou National
Violin Competition.
Before coming to the US in 1985,
Mrs. Yu has performed in many cities with
various musical groups in China, as well as
making hundreds of recordings. In 1985, as a
scholarship student, Mrs. Yu was admitted to the
San Francisco Conservatory in the US. A year
later, Mrs. Yu won full scholarship to study at
Eastman School of Music in New York, where she
completed her Bachelor of Music and Master of
Music degrees.
During Mrs. Yu’s 18-year US
musical career, she has performed in the famed
Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall in New York, and
Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Other
performances have included the concerts with
symphonies of Eastman Rochester, Atlanta Pops,
North Carolina, Binghamton, Charlotte,
Greenville, Augusta, and others. Mrs. Yu has
concretized in many European countries including
Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Belgian,
the Netherlands, Austria, with various chamber
music groups.
Mrs. Yu has been an active
chamber musician and a successful violin
educator. Hundreds of violin students have
benefited from Mrs. Yu’s Weiyi’s Violin Studio.
Among her students, many have won competitions
held by Stats, Universities, and Music Clubs.
Mrs. Yu has been violin faculty at Charlotte
School of Arts since 1992. Other engagements
have included teaching at Wingate University. |
