Tausha Whiteman Plate was raised in
Frostburg, Maryland where she began her
performing career at an early age, under the
tutelage of Lillian Adams.
Ms. Plate attended college in Springfield,
Missouri where she was a Music Education, Piano
Concentration major. She was the student of
Herbert Johnson and June Kean, a
second-generation Rachmaninov protégée. Tausha
graduated with Performance Honors and
Outstanding Senior Musician Awards from Evangel
University.
Plate attended the University of Maine on a
piano performance scholarship studying with
Lillian Garwood where she was also chamber
pianist and accompanist with various university
ensembles, including the famed Orono Singers
under the direction of Chuck Cox. She was the
recipient of a full performance scholarship at
Converse College’s Petrie School of Music in
Spartanburg, South Carolina. There she studied
with the eminent pedagogue George Lucktenberg
and internationally renowned pianist and
performer Douglas Weeks, culminating in the
Master of Music degree in Piano Performance.
The recipient of many scholarships and awards
including induction into Pi Kappa Lambda, the
National Music Honor Society, Ms. Plate
continues to be in demand performing chamber and
solo concerts in and around the region. She has
performed in venues such as the Farnsworth
Museum Concert Series in Maine, Max Gardner
Hall, and Blanton Auditorium in North Carolina,
as well as various performances around the
States and in Israel.
She has served on the faculties of music at
Gardner-Webb University and Lee University for
more than 15 years. She is currently Adjunct
Instructor of Piano at Lee University in
Cleveland, Tennessee. She is the wife of Dr.
Stephen Plate and has three daughters, Isabella,
Katherine, and Sophia. |
