A native of Philadelphia, PA, Andrew
Linton began guitar studies in 1982 at
the age of twelve in Orange City, FL
with Carl Cancel, playing mostly popular
guitar styles until the age of
nineteen. In 1989, he attended the
Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in
Hollywood, CA at Musicians Institute,
where he received a certificate of
completion in 1990. During the time of
study at GIT, Mr. Linton made the
transition from electric to classical
guitar, studying with David Oakes. In
1991, he attended Stetson University in
DeLand, FL, where he studied with Dr.
Stephen Robinson, receiving a B.M. in
Performance in 1997. A M.M. in
Performance was completed in 2004 at the
University of Tennessee, Chattanooga
with Dr. Mario Abril. Andrew Linton has
performed in the master classes of
Stephen Robinson; Ricardo Cobo; Adam
Holzman and Norbert Kraft and has also
performed as a soloist and chamber
musician in a variety of functions,
including an appearance with the
Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra
(Jacksonville, FL) in a presentation of
the children’s program
Vivaldi’s
Ring of
Mystery. He is currently
Coordinator of Music Resource and a
part-time faculty member at Lee
University in Cleveland, TN, where he
heads the classical guitar program. In
addition to teaching applied lessons in
classical guitar, Andrew is also the
founder and director of the Lee
University Guitar Ensemble. He, his wife
Reneé and their two sons, Jonathan and
Jacob, reside in Cleveland, TN.
