Andrea Dismukes has made numerous
appearances in opera, oratorio, chamber
music and traditional solo recital
venues.
A few highlights include performances at the
University of Alabama in the operatic role of
Madame Flora in Menotti’s The Medium, as Carmen
in scenes from Bizet’s Carmen and Charlotte in
Massenet’s Werther, performing as winner of the
Concerto/Aria 2000 with the Johnson Symphony
Orchestra of the University of Alabama, solo
performances in Durufle’s Requiem and Handel’s
Messiah with the Lee University Choral Union and
Chamber Orchestra, Vivaldi's Gloria with the Lee
University Campus Choir and the Bulgarian Radio
Symphony in Sofia, Bulgaria.
She is equally comfortable performing repertoire
from the musical theater, jazz, gospel and
rhythm & blues traditions. She has made
solo appearances with Ron Kenoly,
internationally recognized worship leader and
recording artist for Integrity’s Hosanna.
In 1996, Dismukes was featured in a televised
concert for Georgia Public Television as one of
six finalists in the American Traditions
Competition for Singers at the Savannah Onstage
International Arts Festival, an annual
competition celebrating the repertoire and
styles which have been significant in the
culture of the United States.
An Assistant Professor of Music, Andrea Dismukes
serves as a member of the voice faculty of the
School of Music. From 1993-1999 the Ladies
of Lee, directed by Ms. Dismukes, toured the
Abaco Islands of the Bahamas, Israel, 27 states
of the U.S. including Alaska and produced four
recordings. A versatile musician, she also
freelances as a recording studio vocalist.
Ms Dismukes received a Bachelor of Music
Education from Lee, having studied voice
privately with Virginia Horton, soprano.
She went on to receive a Master of Music in
Vocal Performance from Austin Peay State
University in Clarksville, Tennessee, where she
studied with Dr. Sharon Mabry, mezzo-soprano, a
featured writer for the NATS Journal. Since fall
of 1999, she has been attending the University
of Alabama in pursuit of a Doctor of Musical
Arts degree in Vocal Performance and is studying
voice with Dr. Susan Fleming, mezzo-soprano.
